You need to start from patch 1.1 and work your way up to 1.7.  It's a pain in the ass....

i know some of you are talking about playing COD 4 once in a while.
if we are going to play togather we all need the same version installed.

the game installed stock is version 1.0.525
there are several patches and updates for the game.
you need to install all of the updates in the proper order for the next patch to work.

it starts off with the 1.1 patch at 1.5 mbs ( not needed )

1.1 installer 10.5 mbs  ( req for 1.2 ) ( this patch is on the 2nd page of the site below )

then is 1.2 about 13 mbs ( req  for 1.3 )

1.3 is about the same ( req  for 1.4 )

1.4 is about 70 mbs (req for 1.5 )

1.5 is smaller at 11 mbs ( req for 1.6 )

1.6 is the largest at almost 285 mbs ( req for 1.7 )

the last one 1.6 to 1.7 is just under 40 mbs

there are is also a 1.7 version for the MAC at about 260 mbs

i know a couple already have their games at the highest version 1.7 so either we all get ours up to that version or they would have to uninstall and then reinstall to be able to get theirs to our level which is a huge pain in the back side.

1.2 and below versions can play some of the older maps from coduo and cod 2
1.3 versions and higher can not play any of the older maps.
1.5 is a multi player patch
1.6 and 1.7 have a few custom maps out there along with the most servers.

if you have the game post up below what version you have installed.
i suggest updating your game to the latest version of 1.7

also if you are already playing on a cod 4 server somewhere post up what server with the ip address
you like playing on and maybe your game name if different that that on UO.

OK, I'm not knew to installing Cod 4 and it's patches, over the years I've reinstalled it many times and I've even manage to patch in order without ever having any problems
but know for some reason the patch update on all files says

I will try tomorrow to install on one of my backup drives, but does anyone has any idea what the problem could be.

My windows version is 1.7.568.
I didn't do any patching.  I bought the DVD package and just loaded it right up.
I'll check later for the Mac version, but it's 1.7.something, and it also loaded right up, didn't need any patching.  However, it won't run if a server requires Punkbuster.  Hence I've been playing on the windows side.

Check the location of the patches, may not extract is it is a protected directory like Program Files X86 or if you are not running as admnistrator using a standard account. Copy patches to a folder you create on desktop and extract there. Right click on file and "run as administrator".

To clarify, the patches end in .exe which in this case is a self-extraxting zipfile.

Sorted, all fine on my other hard drives, so I need to reformat dodgy drive.
