Not really an issue. Any1 has any more news about this? I received a Windows 10 update today, apparently it will instal parts every now and then and on july 29 you get the full windows 10 "experience". Considering the issues that have been cause with gaming before by windows updates, I do not know if I should start the update already or not. Any thoughts on this, or did any one else started downloading this already by any chance?

From my information, Windows is going to update the "Windows Update" component only in preparation for Windows 10.  Windows 10 will install through the "Windows Update" component only after you voluntarily accept the update not without your permission. At some point, there should be a full ISO file you can download to perform a clean install. You will have to have a valid Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 system to upgrade. You will most likely have to apply for the upgrade and get a Windows 10 keynote via a special website. Then you can install/upgrade to Windows 10. Your version of Windows 10 will be similar to the version of Windows you currently have licensed. Windows 8.1 Pro or Windows 7 Ultimate will net you Windows 10 Pro.  I have heard that Media Center in Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1 will not function in Windows 10 and they don't intend to port it over. Also, I hear Windows 10 retail purchase will be available on July 29 and free upgrades will not be available until August 31, but that is rumor as of now.  No telling when RedRock's boot camp drives  will be available through Apple. There is the free beta through Windows Insider open to everyone... no current OS needed is installing from the downloaded ISO file.

Not sure, if updating your windows to windows 10 is a good idea since you will still get updates for Win10 while you using it. It could have same patches like in Win8. Im good what I have Win7 for now.

I use windows 8.1 at the moment and read on a site that windows 10 would be installed bit by bit. But I just did the windows 10 update reminder I got and now I only signed up to get the windows 10 update later for free. Not that it would install bit by bit.
And when I get the updater I can decide myself when I want to install it.
I do hear they are bringing the old windows look back, with "start-button" and such, so no need to download that now afterwards, lol.

BTW. It said the free update is only a temporary time and I can still cancel it at a later time. So I thought I might aswell reserve it then.

Windows Update will prepare all Windows versions still being updated, 7, 8, and 8.1 so they can update. I have not heard anything like they will update a bit at a time and I am using Windows 10 beta and read the Windows Insider forums. It's my understanding that if you register for the free upgrade within the free upgrade period you'll get a key you can use anytime to upgrade. YOU DON'T HAVE TO UPGRADE. But register any way just in case. And by-the-way, Windows 8.1 HAS A START BUTTON it just doesn't have the apps on it, just utilities.

Personally, I am very happy with Windows 8.1 even over Windows 10 and Windows 7. Windows 10 will have a steep learning curve for anyone not on Windows 8 or 8.1. I will not upgrade my 4 Windows 8.1 computers right away, but I will upgrade the one Windows 7 computer.

Windows 7 Pro works pretty well with my Mac and Apple's BootCamp.  I signed up for the Win10 upgrade, but I will only download it, not install it.

I doubt there has to be any BootCamp upgrade, as all it does is partition the hard drive and keep track of the Windows components on that partition--I don't think it cares what the Windows version is.  But I could be wrong.  Just another reason not to upgrade to Win10.

Man, I'm already running Mac OS X 10.6 on my main mac, and that's like, 3 OS's behind, maybe 4, the current Mac OS.  My laptop mac and my wife's mac are running Mac OS X Mavericks, and that's the next to latest, which is Yosemite.  Every time I upgrade with OS, I lose some program's functionality.  If I upgrade my main Mac beyond 10.6, I will not be able to play COD:UO on the mac, I'd have to do it on Windows, and so far that has been a disappointment (runs poorly, and it's hard to control the display (built-in to my Mac) ).

This is what an experienced Linux man on another forum told me about the inherent downside of Windows 10:

Well, it seems that Microsoft has made more than cosmetic changes with Windows 10.  While they are offering it for free, Microsoft will get its pound of flesh.  Apparently, the End User's License Agreement gives Microsoft the right to collect:

1) All keystrokes
2) All passwords
3) All email content
4) All browsing behavior
5) All questions to Cortana, the ditigal assistant
6) Contents of private folders
7) Demographic data
Cool etc...

and... it will be for sale.

See:

Of course, this isn't all that different from Googla and Android, but beware.

Of course, none of this applies for linux, for which no dagta is collected at the OS level at all.

First off, every Linux enthusiast I ever met has been a bit strange...

But in regards to Windows 10, during the technical preview phase, we were notified that Microsoft could use any data they pulled from the test machine, including,  microphone and camera data.  They were clear that this data was only to check functionality of the hardware and software and that is where their rights to data ended.

According to the Windows 10 EULA, what they can collect and how they can use it is covered in their Privacy Policy.  You can find links to both on the Web.  I have not complete reading the Privacy Policy but I saw nothing so far that the Linux Man referred to for the retail product.

Also, retail consumer EULA is different form the Volume licensed corporate version.
