Intel HD Graphics and Windows 8 and 8.1 - Buffer Overrun Fix
by Pistazien
Update to Intel HD Graphics drivers have created a buffer overrun when playing glide or openGL games like Call Of Duty 1 and United Offensive. It looks like the problem began with the May 2014 driver release and any version before that works fine. There is the February 2014 and September 2013 versions and I am running the Sep 2013 on my wife's computer and it works fine with Windows 8.1 and Call of Duty. The February 2014 should also work fine.
When I installed Windows 8.1 on my wife's computer I went to the motherboard manufacturer and downloaded the drivers for Windows 8 and 8.1. My Windows 8 key did not allow a direct install to Windows 8.1 so I had to install Windows 8 then I installed all the manufacturers drivers and then did the upgrade to Windows 8.1 and after that installed Windows 8.1 drivers from the manufacturers website (some were the same so they were not re-installed).
The Manufacturers website had the Windows HD Graphics (Video) drivers to download based on what type of Intel processor you have installed i.e. Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge. You'll have to make sure you know what processor you have. You can go to Control Panel, the System and see the processor model and then Google it to determine the correct download if there is a choice from you computer makers site.
Just do the install of Windows 8.1 and check if CoD is working and if it is do not allow the computer to install recommended updates and never update the graphics driver. If it is not, see if you can do a roll back from the Device Manager window, Video Display properties. If that doesn't work, then let me know what type of system and processor you have and I will get you the right file to install.

This problem is still happening and as far as I can tell has not been corrected, but then I don't have a computer that requires those drivers any more. There are sites that have older Intel HD graphics drivers but you have to check that you download or install one that matches your CPU, Sandy Bridge i7 with Intel HD Graphics 4000, etc. As far as Windows 8 and 8.1, Volgar runs Windows 8 ok but fails on Windows 8.1. I'm not sure if you can run the Windows 8 driver on a Windows 8.1 machine but I would think it would work.
Searching for the appropriate drivers you come across sites like this:
***Non-Official Intel HD Graphics Drivers Download Site***
I am not endorsing this site as I have never used them, but always have good anti-virus software running.

Hey Hey Hey, I found a 5 second easy fix for CODUO on Win 7 Pro! NO DL REQUIRED.
Just change the app name from CoDUOMP.exe (or whatever it is on your pc--I'm on my mac side now and can't check) to MOHAA.exe.
Yep, just change the game app name to MOHAA.
It works! This was actually posted for Windows versions pre 7 Pro, but I tried it anyway, and it worked.
Something to do with...? permissions.
Anyway, it works. Just gotta be "administrator" on your pc to do it.
And then if you use desktop shortcuts to launch the app, make sure you change the shortcuts to match the app's new name.
