hey all

here are some basic computer system maintance items that should be done no less than once a month some more frequently. i would print these instructions out for easier refferance when doing them. and i know i can't spell for ship..

i have included the web links for the free software, these are the sites i would download them from since they are the people who wrote the software to begin with and have no added B.S add-ons. you should start to notice a faster computer after the 1st few uses.

i would download and install the suggested software before starting this maintance process.
you should be able to leave any check marks in place for each when it installs it for each software program. remove any check marks that want you to add other software i dont think there are any but i already have these on my pc's and have for years i just update them as needed. i have not had to install them for a while so don't remember if they do or not.

NOTE: all clicks are left clicks there are no right clicks involved in any of these instructions

do these items in this order each time:

1: disc clean up : do once each month after 1st use

2: run C-cleaner : do once each month after 1st use

3: run N-cleaner : do once each month after 1st use

4: run malwarebytes : do once each month after 1st use
it may take more than 10 mins to scan the 1st time.

5: defragment the hard drive : do daily for the 1st week then once every 2 weeks after that.

do this last and over nite since it generally takes a while to complete. you want to get the system fragmentation to 10% or less to make it run at peak performance.

DISC CLEAN UP: this should only take a few mins to complete after the disc is cleaned the 1st time.

this software should already be on your computer as part of it's basic maintance software.

1: click on start
2: click on programs or all programs
3: click on accessories
4: click on system tools
5: click on disc clean up
6: click on files from all users on this computer
7: it will ask you for permission to run click continue
8: this may take a few mins to run since it has not been done in awhile
9: once it is done running it will tell you how much junk needs to be cleaned
10: leave any items check marked as they are and click OK
11: click on DELETE
12: close the program

DISC DERFRAGMENTION: this software should already be on your computer as part of it's basic maintance software

1: click on start
2: click on programs or all programs
3: click on accessories
4: click on system tools
5: click on disc defragmenter
6: it will ask you for permission to run click continue
7: if it does not automatically detect the main drive and gives you a selection choose disc C and click ok
8: this may take a while once it is done close the program. best ran over nite

C-CLEANER: to start the software after installation

1: click on start
2: click on programs or all programs
3: click on C-cleaner
4: it will ask you for permission to run the program click continue
5: click on check for updates at bottom right of screen.
6: do not pay for an upgrade just click no thanks if it needs an update
7: click on download latest version  far right at top of screen
( see attached image for referance )

part 1: cleaner icon on left side of screen
windows tab do not use the applications tab.

1: starting with the clearer icon on the left side
2: leave all check marks as they are and click analyze
3: let it run it may take a few minutes to run the 1st time, you will see the progress at the top of the screen in a percent number.
4: once it is done click run cleaner at bottom right of screen.
5: this may take a few mins to complete.
6: repeat this section 2 to 3 times the 1st time* you run the software it may come back with a few items that could not be removed do not worry about them.

part 2: registry icon on left side of screen.

1: leave all check marks as they are and click scan for issues at bottom left of screen.
2: this may take a few mins the 1st time the software is ran once it is completed
leave all check marks as they are and click on fix selected issues at bottom right of screen.
3: it will ask you if you want to back up the registries click on NO
4: click on fix all selected issues
5: click on close
6: repeat 2 to 3 times the 1st time* you use the software, once cleaned it may still come back with a few issues there should be less than 10 items do not worry about them.
7: close the software.

* NOTE: you do not have to repeat this process more than once after the 1st use.

N-CLEANER: to start the software after installation

1: click on start
2: click on programs or all programs
3: click on N-cleaner
4: it will ask for permission to run the software click continue
5: click on info tab at top right of screen
6: click check for update under product support
7: once updated click done and proceed to part 1.
NOTE: only use the clean system tab for part 1 and part 2 of these instructions

part 1: clean system and applications left side of screen

1: leave all check marks as they area and click clean now
2: click on analyze
3: this may take a few mins the 1st time you run the software once completed click on clean bottom right of pop up.
4: it will ask if you want to delete the items  click yes
5: click done
6: repeat this section 2 to 3 times the 1st time* you run the software it may come back with a few items do not worry about them.

part 2: registry clean and repair

1: leave all check marks as they area and click clean now
2: click on scan
3: this may take a few mins the 1st time you run the software once complete click close on the pop up
4: leave the items shown check marked and click remove
5: it will ask if you want to remove the selected items click YES
6: once done click close on the pop up
7: click done
8: repeat this section 2 to 3 times the 1st time* you run the software.
9: close the program it will ask you to confirm the close of the program click yes.

*NOTE: you do not have to repeat this process more than once after 1st use

MALWAREBYTES: to start software after installation

1: click on start
2: click on programs or all programs
3: click on malwarebytes
4: once started click on dashboard icon at top of screen
5: click on update now far right of database version there will be a green check mark beside this if it is up to date
6: once updated click on scan icon top of screen
7: leave the dot in threat scan and click scan now
8: this can take awhile the 1st time you run the software there is a progress bar at the top of the screen for each type of scan it will perform along with any issues in red
9: once the scan is completed you will get a small pop up at the bottom of the screen close the pop up
10: click on quarantine all at bottom left of screen
11: click on apply actions at bottom right of screen
12: close the program

* NOTE: you only need to run this program one time for each use.

well guys,

keep this in mind.

looks like volgar is going to have to reload his entire operating system, so it may be a while before he's able to get back on and play.

he had gotten a nasty root key worm that dug in so bad it can't be completely removed now and  has caused several other issues along the way.

he got it before he got malwarebytes, malwarebytes detected it when he ran a scan of his machine but could not kill it entirely. all the forums on the issue said only known fix is a complete reformat of the hard drive / quarantine any bad sectors on the drive and then do a fresh install of windows.

it caused several other issues but one that screwed him the most was,
it errased his UO files from his machine and won't allow a reinstall from the UO discs or any other type of install.

we wiped all of his cod and cod uo files from his system in cluding any registery keys associated with the game or its makers. he could re install cod and the 1.4 patch from the discs with no issues but crashes when it tries to load the UO files for the game.

remember ya gotta do that maintance and make sure you got good anti malware software along with your anti virus, malwarebytes would have killed this worm before it did any damage if he had it on his machine to begin with.
