| I attempted to install CoD4 on my son's Windows 10 computer, out of the box it failed like my Windows 8.1 install. Try to install normally first but if it doesn't work correctly try below. I created a folder on the desktop and copied all the files into that folder. Then I went to the \Setup\rsrt directory and right clicked on the Cod4.exe file (if you have you system set to not show file extension it will be listed as an application). Then set it under the Compatibility tab to use Vista compatibility and run as administrator. The install then proceeded as it should and asked if I wanted to install a shortcut on the desktop, after I answered this question nothing else happened. So after a while, it did a Control-Alt-Delete selected Task Manager and then ended the installation. At this point the install was complete even though it did not show it was. Then, installed patches and copied the Punkbuster files over and ran the program. The first few times the program ran, it failed to get the list of servers properly. So you may have to try several time and shut down between attempts. If it still fails to create the list of servers you'll need to use the server list attached to this post. Go to C:\Users\"your name"\ AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Activation\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\ . You should find 2 folders named pb and players and a file called "servercache.dat". Delete the servercache.dat file and place the one in this post in its place. When you reopen CoD4 the will be a list of servers already populated there. Our server is saved as a favorite. The filed is zipped so you will need to unzip it first. |

| I was testing out the rotation a few minutes ago when a couple of players came in. One was level 55 and the other level 1. The Level 55 player got kicked quite soon after joining for Punkbuster problem. The level 1 player played for a while and ranked up to level 7 before I left. But here is the interesting thing. He just recently got CoD4 through Steam and I asked him if he set Punkbuster up himself and he had no idea what Punkbuster was!!! So the Steam version of CoD4 must be automatically set up for Punkbuster properly by Steam. We might also place the CoD4 PB files on the non-registered part of the website. |

| I had a problem installing CoD4 - Modern Warfare on my Windows 8.1 computer and it may be the same on Windows 10, so let me tell you what I did to fix the issue. First try to install normally but if it hangs on installing at "updating components" for more than 15 minutes, stop and try these options. First, insert disk and when it asks what to to with this disk select do nothing. Right click and open the list of files on the disk and navigate to the \Setup\rsrc folder. Right click on CoD4.exe (or CoD4 application if you don't have your computer show file extensions) and go to properties and then compatibility tab. Select Windows Vista as compatibility mode and OK to save and close. Right click and run the file CoD4.exe. It will hang look like it hangs up for about 10 minutes but then procede to install. If this doesn't work just copy all file to a folder on the desktop and follow the instructions above except with the files on the desktop not the DVD/CD. The server version is 1.7.568 so you will have to install patches to update the game to that version. I have 7 patches I used, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4. 1.4 -1.5, 1.6, 1.6 - 1.7. I don't recall where I downloaded them from years ago, but Google CoD4 patches and look around but be careful. Then go in and create a profile and set up video options and play the game. Exit and then install the updated Punkbuster files contained herein. Navigate to the game directory, delete the original PB folder and extract the zip file and place the PB folder in it's place. The Server is named -{DUI}-Cod4[FS] If you don't own the game the disks can be purchased used on Amazon for about $7 and up with shipping. It is available on Steam for $20; however, I assume it will work with all servers it might have to have the patches also. |

Then why does Sarge have to send Slayer the file? |

| Sarge, I guess we don't need this topic here if no one reads it! That PB file is in the second post in this topic. |

Evenbalance has rearranged their website and now the "pbsvc.exe" file is listed on the DOWNLOADS page. |

| You show up that way because most times you join the server that is what you show until the uoconfig file updates and you show up as Hawk. If I change my name, my new name would be there until it picks up another change. | |

| One problem plaguing us is that CoD and Punkbuster install differently based on what operating system and whether you are using older or newer install media. I have 3 different computers running CoD:UO and the files are different on all three. My method is similar to Sarge's except that I use a Punkbuster install file from Evenbalance to install Punkbuster rather than hoping Call of Duty will do it on it's own properly. I get the pbsvc.exe file from Evenbalance.com by clicking on the SUPPORT tab at the center top of that page and then clicking on PB SERVICES FAQ on the following page. In the first paragraph the word "here" is a hyperlink that downloads the file needed. Click on it and run it. The file is attacked to this post. Once it has completed, PnkBstrB.exe and PnkBstrK.sys need to be copied from a working install or the files Sarge linked to above, to the pb directory within the Call of Duty install (usually under Program Files(x86)\Call of Duty\pb). Also, wa001362.dll and wc002165.dll need to be copied to the pb/dll directory. Finally, wa001362.htm and wc002165.htm need to be put in the pb/htm directory. I'm not sure I would recommend a folder swap because there maybe other Punkbuster versions in the players original folder that are not in Sarge's that they need on a specific server. I did a quick install earlier today and here is a video. CLICK HERE====> PUNKBUSTER INSTALL If your install doesn't work as it should after you copy the files look in the following locations also: 1. C:\Users\<your>\AppData\Local\PunkBuster\COD\pb 2. C:\Users\<your>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Call of Duty\pb 3. C:\Users\<your>\AppData\Local\Activision\Call of Duty\pb or something similar. Copy the files to the location on your machine. If you upgrade to Windows 10 and you get kicked for a Punkbuster related issue, run the pbsvc.exe file referred to earlier it should then work fine. |
